Osha root (Ligusticum porteri)—frequently called bear root or chuchupate—is a highly prized, high-altitude medicinal plant deeply rooted in the traditions of Native American tribes and Hispanic communities in the San Luis Valley and Northern New Mexico.

Locally, osha root is revered for its potent antiviral, antibacterial, and expectorant properties.

Ground up and made into a paste with water, it is proven to heal wounds while protecting them from infection.

Osha is proven to be a very effective additive to cold processed soap as its qualities transcend through the soap base.

This formula is scented with pure essential oil of anise which blends beautifully with the scent of the Osha root, creating a unique scent that transports us back in time and deep into our culture in southern Colorado and Northern New Mexico. It is fondly nicknamed "Biscochito Soap" by people from this region for its rich anise scent and is a regional favorite.
